Winter sports:
The skiing areas of Kaprun (Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel) and Zell am See (Schmittenhöhe) together form the famous Europa Sports Region, offering about 130 km of ski and snowboard runs and 230 km of cross-country ski runs.

Kaprun is one of the best-known ski resorts in Austria. It has all the features that other well-known winter sports resorts lack: the Kitzsteinhorn with an enormous glacier high on the mountain, where snow is eternal and you can ski all year round. That is what makes Kaprun so popular with lovers of winter sports. Its climate is also perfect because of its high location. Snow conditions are always great, and when in other skiing areas skis are swapped for walking shoes, you can still ski on the Kitzsteinhorn - even in July and August.

In summertime you can enjoy all kinds of water recreation at the beautifully situated lake at Zell am See. You can sail, surf and waterski, looking onto the eternal snow. Between Kaprun and Zell am See there is a beautiful 36-hole golf course. It is said that this is the most beautiful golf course of Austria. In its immediate surroundings there are several golf courses - a veritable golfing paradise.

Other forms of active leisure activities during summer in Kaprun and its vicinity include walking, Nordic walking, jogging, mountaineering, mountain excursions, cycling, mountain biking, rafting, paragliding, motorbiking, driving a convertible, horseback riding, etc. An exceptional feature is of course the glacier, where you can practice winter sports not only during springtime or fall, but all year round. It’s a unique possibility, especially when combined with other forms of pastime.

In summertime festivities take place on a regular base in Kaprun as well as in Zell am See, and you can also explore the wider area at the same time.
